Historic Sites & Museums in Dallas

Historic Sites
Dallas Country Historical Plaza - this plaza is marked by an opera area-several historical monuments and a cluster of historical buildings including: The Old Red Courthouse, John Neely Bryan Cabin, Kennedy Memorial and a terrazzo map of Dallas Country in the 1800's.   (214) 421-4500
Heritage Farmstead - The Heritage Farmstead Museum consists of an authentically resorted fourteen room 1895 Victorian farmhouse complete with all of its original outbuildings.  (972) 424-7874
John Neely Bryan Cabin - This small, restored log structure is the home and trading post erected in 1841 by Dallas founder, John Neely Bryan.  
Old Red Courthouse - Built in 1892 of red sandstone, this is one of Dallas' oldest buildings which is home of the Dallas Visitors Center.  )214) 571-1301
Swiss Avenue Historic District - Local sightseeing companies tour this grand boulevard from La Vista to Fitzhugh Avenues.  Features early 20th century mansions of various styles including Italianate manors, prairie style and gingerbread home. 
Museums
Age of Steam Railroad Museum - Relive the golden age of the passenger train at this excellent outdoor exhibit.  Features the world's largest diesel electric locomotive.  (214) 428-0101
American Airlines C.R. Smith Museum - Experience the history of commercial aviation.  This exciting establishment acquaints visitors with American Airlines, from its humble beginnings through five eras of flight.  (817) 967-1560
Dallas Firefighters Museum - Vintage fire station displays rare firefighting memorabilia, including a horse-drawn steam pumper and a 1936 hook and ladder truck.  (214) 821-1500
Dallas Museum of Art - the museum's spacious galleries feature an outstanding permanent collection of art spanning from ancient to contemporary periods.  Through paintings, sculpture, and other media, the DNA surveys the art of the American and exhibits an international collection of works from Europe, Africa and Asia.  (214) 922-1200
The Meadows Museum - features a permanent collection of 15th - 20th century art from Spain, as well as special exhibitions and sculpture garden.
